My Pet Chameleons

Reptiles are some of my favorite animals.  I was exited when we got two chameleons. We named them Cameron and Camille. They are good pets.

Chameleons have zygodactylous feet which means that they have three toes facing forward and two toes facing the back. This allows them to grab tree branches.  They have prehensile tails, witch means they can use their tails as a hand.  Their tongues are longer than their bodies.  It's fun to watch our chameleons catch crickets and meal worms with their long tongues!

Chameleons change color to blend in with their surroundings, but they also can change color to show their feelings.  They can change to yellow, green, red, and even purple.  Our chameleons sometimes get spots.

  3. Gresham,
Wow - I had no idea that their tongues are longer than their bodies! I wish I had a prehensile tail. I think it would be very useful, no matter what your job is. How often do your chameleons eat?

  4. Gresham,
This is a wonderful blog! I learned things I did not know about chameleons and you did an excellent writing job. I am going to show this to my grandsons. The eldest is your age, and I think he would like it.
